Forex Trading in Kenya.

Someone posted on here a few days ago asking about forex and forex trading in Kenya, I have gone through the responses and clearly, most people don’t have an idea. It is 3am in the morning and am in a good mood so let me make this post. This will be a comprehensive and lengthy post so grab a pen and paper and sit down. We’ll be here a while.
FIRST OF ALL, who am I..?
I am a forex trader, in Nairobi, Kenya..i have been actively involved in forex since I found out about it in Feb 2016 when I somehow ended up in a wealth creation seminar (lol) in pride inn Westlands, the one close to Mpaka Rd. Luckily for me, it was not one of those AIM global meetings or I’d be on Facebook selling God knows what those guys sell. I did not take it seriously till August of the same year and I have been active ever since.
I don’t teach, mentor or sell a course or signals, I trade my own money. I am also posting from a throwaway account because I don’t want KRA on my ass.
What the fuck is forex and forex trading.
In simple plain English, forex is like the stock market but for currencies. Stock Market = Shares, forex = currencies. If you want more in-depth explanation, google is your friend.
These currencies are pegged on specific countries, united states- dollar, UK- pound, euro zone- euro, Switzerland- Swiss franc, Kenya- Kenya shilling.. you get the point. Now, there are specific events and happenings between these economies that affect the movement and values of the currencies, driving their value (purchasing power up and down). Forex trading exploits these movements to make money. When the value is going up, we buy and vice versa (down –sell)
Is forex trading illegal in Kenya? Is it a scam?
Illegal, no. scam, no. All the banks in the world do it (KCB made about 4 billion from trading forex in 2019)
Have there been scams involving forex in Kenya?
Yes. Here is one that happened recently. This one is the most infamous one yet. Best believe that this is not the end of these type of scams because the stupidity, greed and gullibility of human beings is unfathomable.
However, by the end of this post, I hope you won’t fall for such silliness.
What next how do I make it work..?
Am glad you asked. Generally, there are two ways to go about it. One, you teach yourself. This is the equivalent of stealing our dad’s car and hoping that the pedal you hit is the brake and not the accelerator. It is the route I took, it is the most rewarding and a huge ego boost when you finally make it on your own. Typically, this involves scouring the internet for hours upon hours going down rabbit holes, thinking you have made it telling all your friends how you will be a millionaire then losing all your money. Some people do not have the stomach for that.
The second route is more practical, structured and smarter.
First Learn the basics. There is a free online forex course at www.babypips.com/learn/forex this is merely an introductory course. Basically it is learning the parts of a car before they let you inside the car.
Second, start building your strategy. By the time you are done with the babypips, you will have a feel of what the forex market is, what interests you, etc. Tip..Babypips has a lot of garbage. It is good for introductory purposes but not good for much else, pick whatever stick to you or jumps at you the first time. Nonsense like indicators should be ignored.
The next step is now the most important. Developing the skill and building your strategy. As a beginner, you want to exhaust your naivety before jumping into the more advanced stuff. Eg can you identify a trend, what is a pair, what is position sizing, what is metatrader 4 and how to operate it, what news is good for a currency, when can I trade, what are the different trading sessions, what is technical analysis, what is market sentiment, what are bullish conditions what is emotion management, how does my psychology affect my trading (more on this later) an I a swing, scalper or day trader etc
Mentors and forex courses.. you have probably seen people advertising how they can teach and mentor you on how to trade forex and charging so much money for it. Somehow it seems that these people are focused on the teaching than the trading. Weird, right..? Truth is trading is hard, teaching not quite. A common saying in the industry is “Those who can’t trade, teach” you want to avoid all these gurus on Facebook and Instagram, some are legit but most are not. Sifting the wheat from the chaff is hard but I did that for you. The info is available online on YouTube, telegram channels etc. am not saying not to spend money on a course, if you find a mentor whose style resonates with you and the course is reasonably priced, please, go ahead and buy..it will cut your learning curve in half. People are different. What worked for me might not work for you.
Here are some nice YouTube channels to watch. These guys are legit..
  1. Sam sieden
  2. Cuebanks
  3. TheCoinFx
  4. The trading channel
  5. Astro
  6. Forex family
  7. Wicksdontlie
Advanced stuff
  1. ICT
After a short period of time, you will be able to sniff out bs teachers with relative ease. You will also discover some of your own and expand the list. Two tips, start with the oldest videos first and whichever of these resonates with you, stick with till the wheels fall off.
How long will it take until things start making sense
Give yourself time to grow and learn. This is all new to you and you are allowed to make mistakes, to fail and discover yourself. Realistically, depending on the effort you put in, you will not start seeing results until after 6 months. Could take longeshorter so there is no guarantee.
Social media, Mentality, Psychology and Books
Online, forex trading might not have the best reputation online because it takes hard work and scammers and gurus give it a bad name. However, try to not get sucked into the Instagram trader lifestyle as it is nowhere close to what the reality is. You will not make millions tomorrow or the day after, you might never even make it in this market. But that is the reality of life. Nothing is promised, nothing is guaranteed.
Your mentality, beliefs and ego will be challenged in this market. You will learn things that will make you blood boil, you will ask yourself daily, how is this possible, why don’t they teach this in school..bla bla bla..it will be hard but growth is painful, if it wasn’t we’d all be billionaires. Take a break, take a walk, drink a glass of whatever you like or roll one..detox. Chill with your girl (or man) Gradually you will develop mental toughness that will set you up for life. Personally, I sorta ditched religion and picked up stoicism. Whatever works for you.
Psychology, this is unfortunately one of the most neglected aspects of your personal development in this journey. Do you believe in yourself? Can you stand by your convictions when everyone is against you? Can you get up every day uncertain of the future? There will be moments where you will question yourself, am I even doing the right thing? the right way? It is normal and essential for your growth. People who played competitive sports have a natural advantage here. Remember the game is first won in your head then on the pitch.
Books: ironically, books that helped me the most were the mindset books, Think and grow rich, trading for a living, 4 hour work week, the monk who sold his Ferrari..just google mindset and psychology books, most trading books are garbage. Watch and listen to people who have made it in the investing business. Ray Dalio, warren, Bill Ackman and Carl Icahn.
This is turning out to be lengthier than I anticipated so I’ll try to be brief for the remaining parts.
Brokers
You will need to open up an account with a broker. Get a broker who is regulated. Australian ones (IC Market and Pepperstone) are both legit, reliable and regulated. Do your research. I’d avoid local ones because I’ve heard stories of wide spreads and liquidity problems. International brokers have never failed me. There are plenty brokers, there is no one size fits all recommendation. If it ain’t broke..don’t fix it.
Money transfer.
All brokers accept wire transfers, you might need to call your bank to authorize that, avoid Equity bank. Stanchart and Stanbic are alright. Large withdrawals $10k+ you will have to call them prior. Get Skrill and Neteller if you don’t like banks like me, set up a Bitcoin wallet for faster withdrawals, (Payoneer and Paypal are accepted by some brokers, just check with them.)
How much money can I make..?
I hate this question because people have perceived ceilings of income in their minds, eg 1 million ksh is too much to make per month or 10,000ksh is too little. Instead, work backwards. What % return did I make this month/ on this trade. Safaricom made 19.5% last year, if you make 20% you have outperformed them. If you reach of consistency where you can make x% per month on whatever money you have, then there are no limits to how much you can make.
How much money do I need to start with..?
Zero. You have all the resources above, go forth. There are brokers who provide free bonuses and withdraw-able profits. However, to make a fulltime income you will need some serious cash. Generally, 50,000 kes. You can start lower or higher but if you need say 20k to live comfortably and that is a 10% return per month, then you can do the math on how big your account should be. Of course things like compound interest come into play but that is dependent on your skill level. I have seen people do spectacular things with very little funds.
Taxes..?
Talk to a lawyer or an accountant. I am neither.
Family? Friends?
Unfortunately, people will not understand why you spend hundreds of hours watching strangers on the internet so it is best to keep it from them. Eventually you will make it work and they will come to your corner talking about how they always knew you’d make it.
The journey will be lonely, make some trading buddies along the way. You’d be surprised at how easy it is when people are united by their circumstances (and stupidity) I have guys who are my bros from South Africa and Lebanon who I have never met but we came up together and are now homies. Join forums, ask questions and grow. That is the only way to learn. Ideally, a group of 5-10 friends committed to learning and growth is the best model. Pushing each other to grow and discovering together.
Forex is real and you can do amazing things with it. It is not a get rich quick scheme. If you want a quick guaranteed income, get a job.
And now it is 5am, fuck.
This is oversimplified and leaves out many many aspects.
Happy to answer any questions.

Help Explain Buying and Selling Process

Hi all,
I'm wanting to teach my self a new skill and given my previous work experience in analysis feel Forex trading would be a good fit.
I'm working my way through Babypips (great site) and also some youtube videos to help break things down.
There's a couple of bits I can't quite get my head around and hoping someone can simplify it for me.
EUUSD
  1. If I believe that the Euro is going to fall against the USD then I would commit a "buy" order.
  2. If I believe that the USD is going to fall against the EUR then i'd Sell.
What I can't grasp is how do you make money in this process? If I buy at say 1.18612 and this then goes to 1.19000 how have I made 288pips?
Have I made this by having the trade open at 1.18612 and then closing it when it hits 1.19000? By selling does this make money in reverse?
Sorry if i've got this all wrong, just trying to get my head around it.
Thanks

Edit: Than you all for your replies, it's helped me understand a lot more and get my head around it!

Why Is Brexit Taking So Long Time?

Why Is Brexit Taking So Long Time?

Photo: Internet
What is the European Union?
The European Union (EU) is a political and economic union of 27 member states located primarily in Europe.EU policies aim to ensure the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital within the internal market.
Due to EU countries having close economic and trade relations, the EU's establishment can effectively prevent wars. The EU has helped foster long periods of economic prosperity, and it's helped keep the region at peace.
In 2012, the EU was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
What is Brexit?
Brexit(a portmanteau of "British" and "exit") is the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU). Following a UK-wide referendum in June 2016, in which 52% voted in favour of leaving the EU, and 48% voted to remain a member, the UK Government, which was then led by Theresa May, formally notified the EU of the country's intention to withdraw on 29 March 2017, beginning the Brexit process.
Why Britain left the EU?
The appealing part of the EU was that it made it easier for European countries to share in one another's prosperity. But, as with any union, cooperation means weathering downturns together — and that hasn't always been so easy.
For example, the 2008 financial crisis. Many economists agree that the European Central Bank failed to respond effectively, leading to a recession that was much more severe than it needed to be. Unemployment rose, and tax revenue fell. Banks needed bailouts, and debt in a number of EU countries soared.
According to data from the UK Ministry of Finance, the UK paid 18.8 billion pounds to the EU in 2014, equivalent to 361 million pounds a week.
After the financial crisis, worries about immigration, rising right-wing forces, split within the party, etc. Former Conservative Prime Minister Cameron finally promised that if he wins the 2015 election, he will hold a Brexit referendum.
David Cameron to quit after UK votes to leave the EU.
When might Britain actually leave the EU?
UK left the EU on 31 January 2020, but that is not the end of the Brexit story.
That's because the UK is in an 11-month period, known as the transition, that keeps the UK bound to the EU's rules. The transition (sometimes called the implementation period) will end on 31 December 2020.
Top of the to-do list will be a UK-EU free trade deal. This will be essential if the UK wants to be able to continue to trade with the EU with no tariffs, quotas or other barriers after the transition.
Both sides will also need to decide how far the UK is allowed to move away from existing EU regulations.
Aside from trade, many other aspects of the future UK-EU relationship will need to be decided. For example, Law enforcement, data sharing, and security; aviation standards and safety; access to fishing waters; supplies of electricity and gas; licensing and regulation of medicines.

Photo: BBC
What will happen to the UK after the Brexit?
In terms of economy, the UK, which has withdrawn from the European Union, saves 8 billion pounds (this amount of money is equivalent to 0.5% of the UK's GDP) every year it pays to the EU's finances. After Brexit, immigration policies can also be further tightened to free up more jobs and labor benefits. Finally, Brexit can get rid of the red tape of the EU (about 70% of the laws in the UK are governed by EU laws), for example, no longer implementing the EU's common agricultural policy.
However, after Brexit, tariffs will inevitably increase, and these tariffs will be transferred to commodities. To make better profits, many companies in the UK will rush to run away. For example, Dyson has moved its headquarters from the UK to Singapore. Many established British companies have left the UK because of Brexit. The news that Japanese car company Honda announced that it would close its British plant even shocked Britain.
Besides, the City of London carries 74% of EU foreign exchange transactions, 40% of global Euro transactions, 85% of EU hedge fund assets, and half of EU deposit insurance. After Brexit, London's dominance in the foreign exchange market, including euro transactions, will decline.
The current international order is the best since World War II, but Brexit shows how to make all countries truly unite and help each other, humankind still has a long way to go.
After the Brexit, there will be more influential in the financial market in the future. TOP 1 Markets will keep an eye on it with you.

EUR/USD forecast: Euro doesn’t believe its luck

EUUSD forecast: Euro doesn’t believe its luck

Fundamental euro forecast for today

EUUSD bulls do not believe Christine Lagarde’s optimism

ECB is monitoring the euro exchange rate, but it is not willing to start a currency war now. Christine Lagarde expressed optimism about the euro-area economic recovery, the ECB president hasn’t signaled the further monetary easing in the near future. Lagarde’s speech should have encouraged the EUUSD bulls, but they didn’t believe the good news, so they didn’t go ahead. It looks like a catch. The ECB officials express concerns about the euro strengthening ahead of the Governing Council meeting, and, next, the ECB president sounds hawkish.
At the press conference, Christine Lagarde several times stressed that exchange rates and the euro appreciation were not the ECB policy target. However, the exchange rate was the most discussed topic at the Governing Council meeting in September. According to a Reuters source familiar with the matter, the ECB officials have agreed that the EUUSD rally resulted from a faster economic rebound in the euro area compared to the US growth, the Fed’s easy monetary policy, the increased confidence in the currency bloc due to the management of the pandemic fallout. Moreover, the upcoming presidential election in the US weighs on the US dollar. Bloomberg’s leading indicators signal that the GDP recovery is the fastest in Germany. After a temporary downturn in France, Italy, and Spain on concern about the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, the economic activity is gradually increasing. The UK, US, and Canada persistently lag behind.

Dynamics of the economic recovery

Source: Bloomberg
Four sources on the ECB's Governing Council told Reuters that the ECB acknowledges the negative effects of the euro's strength on inflation and growth, but the central bank is not willing to start a currency war. Speaking after the meeting, two sources said they saw $1.20 as not far from the equilibrium exchange rate at present. According to Citigroup, if the EUUSD is up by another 5%, the European Central Bank will take active measures. In the meanwhile, the regulator is carefully monitoring the exchange rates of the regional currency. The Governing Council policymakers at the meeting considered adopting the language used to stem the euro's previous rally, in early 2018, when the former ECB President Mario Draghi described "volatility in the exchange rate" as "a source of uncertainty", according to Reuters.
The Reuters sources say the southern countries of the eurozone are much more concerned about the euro strengthening than the northern ones. The Governing Council hawks wanted Lagarde to note the great progress in the euro-area economic recovery. François Villeroy de Galhau, the governor of the French central bank, insisted on this especially strongly.
So, the EUUSD bulls feared verbal interventions, signals of monetary easing, and the ECB willingness to follow the Fed’s example and target the average inflation. None of the fears came true. However, the euro hasn’t consolidated above $1.19. Are the buyers so weak? Or, they could feel a catch and will resume attacks after the ECB officials’ speeches. I suppose both scenarios should be considered. If the euro rises above $1.192, it will be relevant to buy. If it slides down below the support levels of $1.1795 and $1.1765, we should sell the euro versus the dollar.

Dollar Weakens, Euro Gains Ahead of ECB Meeting

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 64%. (I'm a bot)
Investing.com - The dollar slipped in early European trade Thursday, with the euro gaining ahead of greenback ahead of a policy meeting of the European Central Bank later in the session.
The euro has pushed higher, helped by Bloomberg News reporting that ECB officials are growing more confident in the bloc's economic outlook.
With this in mind, traders will be following this ECB meeting closely.
While changes in interest rate policy are unlikely, Lane's remarks suggest officials are growing uncomfortable with the euro's almost 6% appreciation against the dollar from its June low.
The ECB is under pressure again after Eurozone consumer prices turned negative in August for the first time since 2016, and the U.S. Federal Reserve changed its monetary policy strategy in such a way as to weaken the dollar further.
"Despite a challenging economic outlook, we think the ECB will keep its monetary policy stance unchanged at the September meeting," said analysts at Barclays, in a research note.

[Diplomacy] China-EU FTA

[Closed--as much as any trade negotiation with the EU can be]

The EU has slowly been extending its vast array of free trade agreements to cover much of the world, and, quite simply, China, as a member of our peaceful and prosperous rule-based international order, wants in.

This new FTA would massively expand the EUs zone of free trade, increasing it by nearly twenty trillion, as well as increasing our trade ties with the world by a roughly equivalent amount.

While we understand that developing this trade agreement will be a difficult and complex task, we have some thoughts on where to start:

European Concessions

Chinese Concessions

Joint Projects

These are really just a starting point, and we'd like to hear the EU's thoughts on this matter. Negotiating trade agreements with the EU is known to be difficult, but we think we may find it worthwhile.

Investment advice needed. Please read details

I need some inspiration and advice. For this reason I read various threads and decided to open another thread for something more personalized.
About me: I live in EU and I have a day job that pays close to 1K per month. That's my main source of income. Furthermore, I use Fiverr and I do content writing mainly. No big money from there. I'm working on improving my gig and I would like to add more gigs that sell. I also get 300 euro / month from an appartment I rent to someone and I have some money in a "closed" deposit account in the bank. I also have 2500 euro sitting in bank open.
So basically, I have 2500 euro avalaible and a steady income stream of 300 euro per month to invest as capital. What I would like to ask if you can tell me any ideas to invest these money. I read a lot of stuff, like p2p lending platforms, forex passive and non-passive ideas, and the list goes on.
Any really good ideas that work? I'm willing to put effort to build something new or expand something existing. I'm open to passive or non-passive ideas. Low risk is preferred.

Edit: They proposed me this product but I had second thoughts, perhaps someone with knowledge can advice me if it works or if it is a trap: https://www.nnhellas.gen/pension-investment/investment-savings/nn-ultima

What is Forex Trading and Forex Risks

FOREX (Foreign Exchange market) or FX, is a global trade advertise where stocks and offers are not exchanged, however money. The arrival for the financial specialist isn't in the estimation of the money as such, but instead the relative trade estimation of one cash against another money. In this way, Forex exchanging is constantly communicated two by two, for example, Euro/US Dollar (EUUSD) or US DollaJapanese Yen (USD/JPY).
By at the same time purchasing and selling sets of monetary forms, the financial specialist, or theorist, would like to benefit from an ideal swapping scale change. In contrast to the American stock trades, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System (NASDAQ), Forex exchanging is more unsurprising than stocks.
One procedure that the Forex speculator utilizes is a strategy that comes from the suspicion that all data about the market and a specific money's future variances is found in the value chain. As such, a speculator essentially sees what has befallen that money in the ongoing past, and predicts that the little changes will for the most part proceed with similarly as they have previously. Another methodology for the Forex financial specialist is to dissect the nation of the cash's economy, political circumstance, and other potential bits of gossip. The speculator can likewise foresee such things as political agitation or change that will likewise affect the market.
Forex is the biggest money related market on the planet taking care of somewhere in the range of 1.5 and 1.9 trillion US dollars daily. The mix of rather steady however little everyday vacillations in money costs, make a domain which pulls in financial specialists. In view of the liquidity of the market, in contrast to some once in a while exchanged stock, brokers can open and close situations inside a couple of moments as there are continually willing purchasers and venders.

What are the risks?

On account of the sheer size of the Forex Market, it guarantees more noteworthy value dependability and more noteworthy influence. Additionally, with worked in insurances, for example, well-being edges, programmed limits for purchasing and selling, and other hazard assurance quantify, the probability of winding up in the red in any event, when the Forex showcase is unpredictable is definitely diminished. Moreover, due to its size, it is close to unthinkable for a solitary financial specialist to fundamentally influence the cost of significant cash.
Be that as it may, all Forex merchants ought to know that the market is one of the most fluid around and subject to solid money patterns. While influence figures of up to100:1 are conceivable, without sufficient hazard insurance set up the hole among benefit and misfortune can be emotional. Indeed, even veteran Forex brokers can be gotten out every once in a while and endure huge shots. With this kind of speculator theory, the brilliant guideline must be: don't change beyond what you can bear to lose. Read more at Visit us on https://futurefx.com/

EUR/USD forecast: Euro is scared of heights

EUUSD forecast: Euro is scared of heights

Fundamental Euro forecast for today

Isn’t EUUSD trading too high?

The Forex market is always changing! In winter, the news about progress in the US-China would strengthen the euro. In spring, the US stock market rally would support the EUUSD bulls. At the end of summer, however, the euro isn’t rising amid the US optimistic announcements about making a deal with China. It isn’t rising although the S&P500 has hit a fresh high on the news about the accelerated approval of vaccines and the use of blood plasma to treat critically ill COVID-19 patients. Isn’t the euro trading too high?
Although Donald Trump claims he does not want to talk with China and does not rule out a complete break in relations with this country, US and Chinese officials discussed the status of the trade deal. Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He spoke with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to discuss further action needed to make progress on the trade deal. Such a tone suggests the White House still wants to reach an agreement with China.
Beijing has fallen behind its first-year commitment. Nonetheless, the recovery of China’s economy, growing domestic demand, and the unwillingness to inflame tensions with Washington suggest that there won’t be a new round of trade wars.

China’s commitments on increasing its purchases of US products

Source: Bloomberg
Donald Trump doesn’t want to resume the trade battle ahead of the US presidential election. Joe Biden has already accused him of the failure of his policy with Beijing, so he wouldn’t give his opponent another reason for criticism. China doesn’t want new tariffs. China’s economy, unlike most advanced economies, will expand in 2020. JP Morgan increased the forecast for the Chinese GDP in 2020 from 1.3% to 2.5%. The US GDP, for example, should contract by 8% this year.
The continuous rise of the US stock indexes and progress in US-China trade relations supported Trump’s approval ratings, which could be a reason for the EUUSD correction. What is good for Trump is good for the US dollar.

Dynamics of Trump’s approval rating and USD

But still, the primary reason for the euro drawdown is likely to be the second wave of the pandemic in Europe. The ratio of the COVID-19 cases in Europe and the US peaked in early August, but the situation has changed since then.

Dynamics of EUUSD and US-Europe COVID-19 case count

If the EUUSD breaks out supports at 1.178 and 1.1755 could suggest entering short-term sell trades. One should not hold the shorts for too long, in my opinion. Many euro’s growth drivers still work out, and the deterioration of the euro-area epidemiological situation will hardly last for a long time.

[Econ] Making the Best of a Very Bad Thing

November 2030
Well, uh, this sucks. Just a few short months after the Arab States of the Gulf finally unified, the world economy decided to explode. This is what we in the business of economics call a very bad thing.
The effects across the FAS have been relatively disparate. The United Arab Emirates, easily the most diversified economy in the region, has been the least heavily impacted (though it's still bad). Diversification programs in Oman and Bahrain have also helped to stave off some of the worst impacts of the crisis, though they haven't been as successful in avoiding the effects as the UAE. Qatar and Kuwait, still almost entirely reliant on hydrocarbon exports, are not happy with this turn of events. Falling global oil prices, though propped up a little by a sudden increase in demand from China, have left their economies struggling much more than the rest of the country, and in desperate need of assistance from the better off parts of the country.
One major pain point in this crisis has been the FAS's economic ties to the United States. While most of the FAS's trade is with Asia, Africa, and Europe, the US financial system still plays a crucial role in the FAS. The stability of the US Dollar has long been used to protect the economies of the Gulf using their vast Forex reserves (earned from oil sales) to peg their currency to the US Dollar. With the US Dollar in complete collapse, the value of the Khaleeji is plummeting right along with it, causing a significant degree of harm to the FAS's economy.
To help offset this harm (and to decouple the FAS's economy from a country that the FAS is starting to view as maybe not the most reliable economic partner), the Central Bank in Dubai has announced that the Khaleeji will switch its peg from the US Dollar to a basket of foreign currencies (the Euro, the Pound Sterling, the Swiss Franc, the US Dollar, and the Japanese Yen). The FAS hopes that this will help to salvage the Khaleeji's value, better protecting the economy from the collapse of the dollar-based international financial system. Rumor has it that the Central Bank is discussing the idea of unpegging the Khaleeji entirely and allowing it to float freely, but so far, the Central Bank has made no moves towards floating the Khaleeji.
Crises suck. They shatter the status quo and throw established norms and procedures into chaos. No one really wins during a crisis.
But in another sense, they're a double-edged sword. The status quo is often a repressive entity, reinforcing existing hierarchies and preventing dramatic shifts in the order of things. Chaos breaks that apart, giving the ingenuitive and the entrepreneurial on opportunity to better their lot in ways they otherwise could not.
Put differently: chaos is a ladder, and the FAS intends to be the one climbing it. As the largest economy in the Arab World (and one of the world's 20 largest economies) by both nominal GDP and GDP per capita (by a significant margin--it's probably either Saudi Arabia or Egypt in second place in nominal GDP, and definitely Saudi Arabia in second place in GDP per capita, but the FAS more than doubles the country in second place in both categories, so it's sort of a moot point), the FAS hopes to cement its place as the regional economic power.
The FAS has announced a new slate of policies intended to attract rich investors, manufacturing firms, and financiers fleeing the new nationalization program of the United States. New free trade zones have been created throughout the country--especially in the struggling, undiversified regions of Kuwait and Qatar--with the goal of convincing fleeing American manufacturers to set up shop in these areas. Attractions include wildly low tax rates (as low as zero percent in some instances), a common law framework (as opposed to the Sharia-based legal system in most of the FAS), highly subsidized land prices (sometimes free), relaxed financial restrictions (making it easier to move money in and out of the FTZ), and, for large enough firms moving enough operations into the country, preferential visa treatment (making it easier for them to relocate foreign employees into the country). Sitting at one of the major crossroads of global trade, moving operations to the FAS offers easy access to both the world's established consumer markets (like the EU and East Asia) as well as to some of its largest growing markets (South and Southeast Asia, East Africa, and MENA). Pair this with wildly high standards of living (for people who aren't slaves Asian or African migrant workers) and established expatriate communities, and the FAS becomes an incredibly attractive option for American and other foreign firms looking to relocate.
In addition to manufacturing-oriented FTZs, special attention has been paid to attracting service-oriented firms to new and existing FTZs in the vein of Dubai Internet City, Dubai Design District, Dubai Knowledge Park, and Dubai Media City, with the goal of developing a robust service economy that can capture growing markets in the MENA, South Asia, and East African regions. In advertising these zones, the governments of the FAS have highlighted the success of previous ventures in Dubai, which have attracted the regional headquarters of giants like Facebook, Intel, LinkedIn, Google, Dell, Samsung, Microsoft, IBM, Tata Consultancy, and more.
Perhaps one of the most substantial pushes, though, is to attract American financial services and FinTech firms to base in the FAS (particularly Dubai, Kuwait City, Doha, and Abu Dhabi, the traditional centers of regional finance). New financial industry free trade zones have been set up in the four cities, structured in the vein of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). These financial FTZs boast an independent and internationally regulated regulatory and judicial system, a common law framework, and extremely low taxation rates. All government services in these regions are available in English (the lingua franca of international finance), and in events where ambiguity exists in the legal and regulatory systems, the systems are set to default to English Common Law (except for the Kuwait City International Financial Centre, which is hoping to better tailor itself towards American financial firms by defaulting to American Civil Law from pre-2020 rather than English Common Law). Much like in the DIFC, these new FTZs will also run their own courts, staffed in large part by top judicial talent from Common Law (or in the case of Kuwait City, American Civil Law) jurisdictions like Singapore, England, and (formerly) Hong Kong. Using these FTZ, the four cities hope to raise their profile as financial centers. Dubai in particular is hoping to break into the top ten global financial centers--and it stands a good chance of doing so, too, as it sits at number 12, just behind cities like LA, SF, and Shenzhen--while the other cities are just hoping to boost their profile into the 20s or 10s (according to Long Finance, Dubai is number 12 in the world and 1 in the region, Abu Dhabi is number 39 in the world and two in the region, Doha is number 48 in the world, and Kuwait City is number 91).

Question from a new FX trader

So I've been starting trading forex about a week ago and so far seem to be profitable.
I already have experience trading stocks and options as well as gambling with binaries back when they were still legal in europe.
My strategy so far is to just long EUUSD and respectively short USD/CHF as there are literally no good news comming from the states and the trend shows. Decision for these 2 pairs is based upon the fact that I'm most informed on the euro coming from europe myself and the CHF has always been a very stable and strong currency, so most of the movement in USD/CHF should be from the USD.
So I basically go in long on the EUUSD (short USD/CHF), especially when its dipping, and open up 3-5 positions hroughout a day all with .01 lots. I then let it rest until im satisfied with the profits or I think it will turn. Stop loss at 40 pips.
Reason for the multiple positions a day being cost average effect which seems to work very well with long term stonks.
Now the real question: Would it make sense to hold positions for longer than lets say, a week? Or would the swap/commission consume most of the profit? Because as of right now I don't really see the USD rising in value anytime soon. So in theory I would open up positions, whenever there seems to be a good entry point and hold it for a few months until there are good news coming from the states.

Investment advice needed. Please read details. Need ideas.

Thanks

[Econ] Reality is an illusion the universe is a hologram buy gold buy!

[Secret--everything about China's FOREX reserves is a state secret, but consider everyone as knowing vaguely the contents of this document as people IRL know about China's FOREX reserves]

With there being a desperate need for the yuan to be devalued, and the dollar falling to new lows, China is in a somewhat odd situation. Domestic efforts are already underway to buy [dollar-denominated] oil and support inflation; but foreign efforts are also needed.

And no, we aren't dumping US treasuries. That would be very dumb to do right now.

China's foreign exchange reserves are some of the largest in the world, and we intend to make them larger. The new target is $5 trillion [up from $4 trillion currently [M: I'm assuming organic growth from the $3.15 trillion]]. This will help drop the value of the yuan and raise the value of other currencies, improving our export situation. The question then follows, however--what is it that we are going to buy?

$500 billion--half of the new accumulation--is going to go into gold. No, we haven't turned into goldbugs all of a sudden. It's that holding other currencies has distinct disadvantages, and buying gold ensures that we have a solid backstop if the other major currencies in our portfolio--particularly the dollar--devalue. This should also force down the yuan in foreign exchange.

The rest of it will be split in half. $250 billion will go into Euros. $100 billion will go into Yen; $50 billion will go into pounds, and the remaining $100 billion will be split up in a basket of emerging currencies from countries without major commodity exports--for instance the Argentine peso and Bangledashi Takra--which should both diversify risk [though these currencies will still represent a tiny portion of our basket] and strengthen the currencies of emerging markets that could potentially compete with our vast economy.

This program has no defined end date but is expected to take place over the next several years, with purchases being reduced or increased to help meet the new 4% inflation target.

Forecast for EUR/USD: whose grave is deeper?

Forecast for EUUSD: whose grave is deeper?

Fundamental forecast for dollar for today

Will euro continue to rally or will EUUSD consolidate?

The Fed was the main player to fight previous recessions, but now it plays a supporting role. Only the public health sector’s advancement will indicate an economic recovery. No easy money will protect people from COVID-19. At the latest FOMC’s meeting Jerome Powell said that “social distancing measures and a fast reopening of the economy actually go together. They’re not in competition with each other.” The Fed didn’t ask for a new lockdown but admitted that leading indicators started blinking red amid the worsening epidemiological situation. That’s good news for US stocks but bad news for the US dollar.

US GDP dynamics
